Children are precious and when a child suffers from illness or injury, parents need to make sure their child receives the best care possible. That is why Citizens Medical Center has a Pediatrics wing where our staff can work closely with the child’s physician for the benefit of the child. Our aim is to make the child and parents as comfortable as possible during their stay with us.
Citizens Medical Center has 200 years of pediatric experiencesce. We make sure that all our pediatric staff are certified PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and that they attend in house pediatric specific skills training every year.
We treat the following medical cases, at the request of the child’s doctor:
- Medical surgical conditionsGastroenteritis
- Dehydration
- Orthopedic cases
- Respiratory conditions
- Newborn care
We specialize in focused short-term care and have dedicated rooms for one-on-one attention. Certain outpatient pediatric labs are done by caring pediatric nurses that know how work with and ease a child’s concerns. Moms get guest trays for meals so that they can stay and eat with their child.
Pediatrics is located on the 5th floor of the South Tower.
Nursery:
In addition to the services we provide for older children, we have a state-of-the-art nursery. New born care involves routine screenings, Critical Congenital Heart Defect (CCHD) screenings, radiology (MRI, CT, etc.) scans, if needed. Citizens Medical is also the only hospital in the area that does Ret Cam Imaging for premature babies. This exclusive imaging scan helps prevent blindness for at-risk preemies.
In addition, should something occur during childbirth, we have an ICU just down the hall from the mother’s labor and delivery rooms. This helps us keep families together, rather than having to ship mother or baby off to another facility while the other stays put. We remove the emotional distress a father or other family member would experience at having to choose which loved one they stayed with.
