Physical therapy reduces the onset and progression of impairment, functional limitation, disability, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes. The primary objective is to restore, maintain, promote overall fitness, health, and return individuals to their greatest optimal level in quality of life.

What is a Physical Therapy Program?
This program has been developed and functions in accordance to the American/Texas Physical Therapy Associations and the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.

Who can Benefit from a Physical Therapy Program?
The Physical Therapy Program is for individuals with functional disabilities associated with the following:
Gait, Locomotion, and Balance
Neuromotor Development (Strokes, Traumatic Brain Injuries, ets.)
Pain
Orthotic, Prosthetic, and other Supportive Devices
Posture
Joint Integrity and Mobility
Anthropometric Characteristics (Lymphedema, Traumatic edema, etc.)

What are the goals of a Physical Therapy Program?
Identify and buffer disablement risk factors and processes
Reduce impairment, functional limitations, or disabilities
Decrease the duration of an illness
Limit the severity of a disease
Promote restoration of function
Modify activities of daily living to those of functional limits

How does the Physical Therapy Program work?
The Physical Therapy Program is offered in three stages.

Inpatient — While in the hospital, the Physical Therapists will direct and supervise your immediate activity program and provide you with education about the recovery process.

Outpatient — This stage of the program may be entered immediately following a hospital stay of simply as a “walk-in.” At this level of rehabilitation the Physical Therapist will complete a comprehensive evaluation, develop a working physical therapy diagnosis, establish an outcome, select direct interventions (land vs. aquatic activities), and provide patient/family related instructions/education. The overall objective, at this stage, is to obtain the most optimal functional outcome possible for the patient.

Maintenance — This stage of the program is an ongoing option for those that have completed the Outpatient stage of the program. This program is designed to maintain the functional level and benefits achieved during the Outpatient stage. The Maintenance stage of the program, which involves a monthly fee, is an option for individuals who want to continue their exercise program and social/clinical interaction.

How do you begin a Physical Therapy Program?
A physician’s referral is required for both Inpatient and Outpatient physical therapy services. Once the referral is made, the Physical Therapist will complete your evaluation, determine intervening modalities, establish diagnosis-related goals, and implement, along with your medical history, will help us to develop your individualized physical therapy program.

Insurance companies cover inpatient and outpatient physical therapy. We would be glad to contact your insurance company to establish pre-certification and to inquire about coverage prior to beginning the program.
