Staffed and equipped according to guidelines of the American College of Surgeons, the Emergency Department handles an annual volume of around 30,000 patients.

Citizens' ER has been designated as the Lead Level III Trauma Facility in this area.


Specialized Training

Citizens Medical Center is known for being able to take care of the most critically injured patients. The Emergency Department is staffed with physicians specially trained in management of the emergency patient. Specialized training for the physicians and staff includes:

Advanced
Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS)
Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)
Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum
Board Certified Physicians
Certified Emergency Nurses
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Other training includes prevention and outreach programs aimed at educating preteens and teenagers through the Emergency Nurses Council Alcohol Related Emergencies (ENCARE) program, safety education programs for children and parents, and the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program.
