The nursing staff on 6 South is dedicated to the bariatric program.  They are a highly motivated, empathetic group who understand the special needs of bariatric patients.  A bariatric nurse coordinator, 18 RNs, and 2 LVNs make up the nursing unit staff. They have cared for over 1,000 bariatric patients since the program’s inception. Nurses attend inservices and seminars on a continual basis to keep up-to-date with the changes in technology and treatment of our patients.  The majority of our nurses are certified in bariatric surgical nursing by the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery, with the remainder in the process of obtaining certification.

Our goal on 6 South is to treat each person as if they were members of our own family. We strive to maintain the highest standard of care. We are continuously learning about changes in nursing care through education. In addition, our patients teach us through their experiences. We measure our success by the life-change and positive outcomes that follow weight-loss surgery.
